Born for finesse game applications, the Aldebaran BFS combines a lightweight Magnesium frame and specialized braking system to tackle any technique within the Bait Finesse System (BFS) realm. The Aldebaran BFS incorporates Shimano's Finesse Tune Brake (FTB) system to reduce the spool's weight by moving the braking unit from the spool to the palming side-plate. The result: the spool takes minimal force to turn and allows anglers to effectively cast lightweight tackle. Unlike traditional magnetic brake systems that maintain the same drag on the spool throughout the cast, Shimano's FTB capitalizes on the cast's centrifugal force and the magnetic brakes automatically adjust to slow down the spool only when braking is needed. Fully adjustable, anglers can fine-tune the FTB with the external dial or by adding or removing individual magnets as needed. The Aldebaran BFS further enhances casting performance by leveraging a MagnumLite (MGL) Spool III to reduce start-up inertia for unparalleled control and accuracy. FTB

Shimano developed the Finesse Tune Brake (FTB) to improves casting performance of lightweight lures by eliminating the brake unit from the spool. This revolutionary design further reduces weight beyond traditional spool-porting designs that keep the brake unit attached. When the spool rotation speed increases, these magnets move outward to the spool closer. The backlash is prevented from the increased Brake power.

X-Ship Baitcasting

X-Ship provides improved gear durability. By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear maintains precise alignment with the drive gear. This allows the gears to stay in the same position under the heaviest loads. The added benefit of X-Ship technology is that friction between the spool shaft and gear are eliminated. This further benefits anglers with enhanced casting performance and casting distance of lighter lures.

Super Free Spool

Super Free Spool eliminates friction on the spool shaft during the cast. Standard baitcasting reels are constructed in a way that when the clutch bar is pressed down, the pinion gear is freed and can actually drag on the spool shaft. This creates friction that can limit the length of a cast. But baitcasting reels with Super Free Spool are constructed so that the pinion gear is supported by a ball bearing. When the clutch is disengaged in preparation for a cast, the pinion gear and spool shaft are kept in perfect alignment. The result: zero friction is placed upon the spool shaft and enhances casting performance.

CI4+ Baitcasting

CI4 is a Shimano original material reinforced with carbon fiber that is lighter and has a higher strength than conventional resin material. CI4+ is an advanced version of the original CI4 material and is 2.5x more rigid than its predecessor. While improving lightness and rigidity, reel bodies and rotors built with CI4+ are further reduced in size and weight.

SilentTune

By applying slight pressure to the bearing holding the spool, SilentTune reduces the vibration of the bearing during high-speed rotation. This improves the quietness while casting and the rise of the spool rotation becomes even smoother.

Exciting Drag Sound

Exciting Drag Sound technology enables drag sound on a baitcasting reel without using the function of a rattle or clicker. This ultimately makes it easy for an angler to determine whether a fish is pulling drag and provides an advantage during the fight.

S A-RB Baitcasting

S A-RB bearings are put through the same process as Shimano’s A-RB bearings but feature shields on both sides of the bearings. These shields reduce the possibility of salt or sand inhibiting rotation of the bearing.
